Water is the essence of life on Earth, yet its role is often overlooked in political decision-making.
In response to the urgent need for better water management and the growing global demand for water democracy, the *Confluence of European Water Bodies* emerged to champion the “Rights of Nature” within Europe.

The *Confluence of European Water Bodies* first convened in September 2023 at Spain’s Mar Menor, the first European ecosystem to be granted legal personhood.

The Diplomatic Suitcase serves as a symbolic and tangible reminder of that significant moment. During this gathering, each participating water community contributed a meaningful artifact, such as a 1970s seahorse bone from Mar Menor, a bikini from the Polish River Sisters, and algae from the Venice Lagoon. These objects reflect the shared spirit of care and activism in confronting environmental challenges.
