SPREEVISION

In view of the consequences of climate change and the resulting ecological, social as well as political developments, the protection and revitalization of the Spree is essential for the sustainable urban development of Berlin. A healthy Spree benefits not only plants and wildlife but also human livelihoods.
What is the role of the Spree in a climate-resilient city?
What are the current socio-ecological challenges of the site?
What would be the maximum achievable ecological status quo?
Which sustainability potentials can be raised?

The Vision
is a future where we live in climate resilient cities, where intact ecosystems provide a stable urban climate, leave space for non-human actors such as animals & plants and thus enormously increase the quality of life of city dwellers. The initiative "SpreeVision" is an attempt to bring Berlin closer to this idea. The focus is on the city's most important ecosystem with the scarce and valuable resource water: the Spree. SpreeVision is one level of the SpreeBerlin project and part of the Symbiotic Lab.

SPREEVISION- (P)OSTHAFEN
The Osthafen is one of the areas in Berlin with the greatest potential for improvement. The study "SpreeVision-(P)Osthafen" initiated 2021 by Ralf Steeg, Jan Colomer & Jakob Kukula, is a study on urban interventions that show how the Spree can be made more ecologically valuable and socially inclusive. A "SpreeTag" event wants to contribute to reconstruct the collective imaginary of the Spree and to promote the will to unfold its potential for the benefit of human and non-human species. The Spree hosts a unique diversity of life but at the same time belongs to the most threatened ecosystems in Berlin.

The project is currently developed, please stay tuned!
